In 1932, the trucking industry faced an array of oppressive government actions. The Commercial Motor Operators of Nevada was formed to defend against measures that would damage the safety, effectiveness and profitability of our industry.

Almost a century later, we are now known as the Nevada Trucking Association. We have a long track record of defending the industry and helping to shape productive legislation.

The NTA continues to help you and your employees navigate challenges to the industry involving abusive lawsuits filed by predatory lawyers, a shortage of qualified drivers, increasing insurance costs and constantly changing rules. These are just a few issues trucking companies contend with.

The NTA is here to remind our lawmakers, regulators, the media and the public that trucking is essential.

While trucking is our expertise, we also work on general business issues that impact you, your customers and Nevada’s overall economic climate.

In the past 10 decades, NTA has:

  • Ushered the industry through the regulation of the trucking industry during the Great Depression, assisted the war effort during WWII, aided in the implementation of the Interstate Highway System in the 1950s; supported economic deregulation of the trucking industry in 1980 and most recently, helped members navigate through the COVID-19 Pandemic.

  • Reduced the cost of longer vehicle combination permits.

  • Crafted and passed legislation to allow self-registration for trucking companies.

  • Crafted and passed legislation to allow trucking companies to stagger their registration, which allows you to pick your registration cycle to match your company’s cash flow.

  • Developed a Worker’s Compensation program that has saved our members millions of dollars.

  • Successfully implemented construction of more truck parking.

  • Implemented permanent trailer registration.
  • Fought onerous taxes.
  • Worked with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Nevada Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies to promote highway safety.
  • Worked with the Nevada Department of Transportation to develop a Nevada-centric freight plan which recognized both the challenges and benefits of the trucking industry in the Silver State.
  • Kept our members and the trucking industry informed. Our outreach includes quarterly newsletters and regular virtual meetings with our members, regulators and other stakeholders.
