Brian Childress of FedEx Fright selected as Nevada Driver of the Year 2022
Brian Childress, a driver with FedEx Freight out of Las Vegas, Nevada, has been selected as the Nevada 2022 Driver of the Year by the Nevada Trucking Association. He has been employed by FedEx Freight since 1999, and in his 19 years of driving a commercial vehicle he has logged more than 3 million accident-free miles. Childress currently logs 120,000 miles annually driving from Las Vegas, Nevada to San Bernadino, California.
Childress was honored for his exemplary safety record, his professionalism, and an act of heroism on the highway where he pulled a person out of a truck that had flipped over in the snow. Childress was among 7 professional truck drivers who had also performed acts of highway heroism and were named “Knights of the Road.”
Childress is a veteran in the Army National Guard who served in Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom and has served as a military policeman stateside ammo depots and plants in Kansas and Missouri. He has been recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal and Reserves Overseas Ribbon.
Childress was joined by his wife Lashawnda when accepting the Driver of Year Award, sponsored by Great West Casualty Company in Reno, Nevada last Saturday after competing in the Nevada Truck Driving Championships in the Twin Trailers Class earlier in the day.
The Nevada Trucking Association congratulated Childress on his achievement and praised him for his dedication and service. Paul J. Enos, CEO of the Nevada Trucking Association said, “Childress is a role model for other drivers and a valuable asset to the trucking industry. He was chosen as the driver of the year by a committee composed of industry and state and federal trucking officials.”
Childress is a member of the Graceway Church and the NAACP. He and LaShawnda have two sons, Donovan and Dylan, and reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The other drivers recognized as Knights of the Road were: Mike Frank-FedEx; Donald Hilton-Wal-Mart; Gregory Miller-FedEx; Ivan Padilla-Old Dominion; David Sharp-UPS; and Christopher Stevens -Wal-Mart.
